Describing an aircraft configuration where high-drag devices, such as landing gear and flaps, are extended. This state is adopted during takeoff and landing phases to increase lift and drag, allowing for slower airspeeds and steeper approach angles. Operating in a dirty configuration requires more engine thrust to maintain airspeed compared to a clean configuration.
