Describing a reservoir rock that contains a high proportion of clay minerals or other non-hydrocarbon components mixed with the primary rock matrix. These impurities can reduce porosity and permeability, hindering the flow of oil and gas. The presence of clay can also complicate well logging interpretations and drilling fluid design.
