Longitudinal wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007037

The component of the wind vector that is parallel to a specific line of reference, such as an aircraft's flight path or a runway's orientation. In aviation, it is the headwind or tailwind component affecting the aircraft's ground speed. For wind turbine analysis, it is the wind component aligned with the rotor axis, which is the primary driver of power generation.
