Track wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009734
The component of the wind vector that is parallel to the intended path or track of a moving object, such as an aircraft or a weather balloon. A positive track wind, or tailwind, increases the object's ground speed, while a negative track wind, or headwind, decreases it. This value is calculated by projecting the total wind vector onto the object's track direction vector.
