Pressure-rise center
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008140
A point on a synoptic weather chart indicating the location of the most rapid increase in barometric pressure over a specified time period. These centers are found within developing anticyclones or in the region behind a moving cold front, signifying the arrival of colder, denser air. Pressure tendency is plotted on maps using isallobars, and the rate of change is measured in hectopascals (hPa) per three hours.
