Pressure-fall center
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008139
A point or area on a synoptic chart that exhibits the largest negative pressure tendency, meaning the atmospheric pressure is decreasing most rapidly. These centers are identified by closed isallobars on a pressure-change chart. The movement of a surface low-pressure system is closely related to the location of the associated pressure-fall center, which is found ahead of the advancing cyclone.
