Ground-controlled approach
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006098
A type of instrument approach procedure where an air traffic controller on the ground provides verbal guidance to a pilot to facilitate a landing during poor visibility. The controller uses precision approach radar to monitor the aircraft's position relative to the ideal glideslope and course, issuing heading and descent instructions until the pilot can see the runway. This system is a talk-down approach, contrasting with procedures where the pilot interprets navigation signals directly.
