Terpenoids

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009557

A large class of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted into the atmosphere primarily by vegetation. These compounds, also known as isoprenoids, are built from isoprene units and include monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. In the atmosphere, they are highly reactive with oxidants like ozone and hydroxyl radicals, leading to the formation of secondary organic aerosols and contributing to photochemical smog.
