Carbon assimilation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004157
The process by which living organisms, primarily plants, convert inorganic carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into organic compounds. This is mainly achieved through photosynthesis, where solar energy drives the fixation of carbon dioxide into sugars. Carbon assimilation is a fundamental process in the global carbon cycle and the basis of most food webs.
