Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006309

Organic compounds composed solely of hydrogen and carbon atoms, found naturally in fossil fuels and emitted into the atmosphere from both natural and anthropogenic sources. In the atmosphere, they act as precursors to ozone and particulate matter through photochemical reactions. Methane (CH4) and benzene (C6H6) are common examples of atmospheric hydrocarbons.
