Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010677

Organic compounds composed of multiple fused aromatic rings, often formed during the incomplete combustion of organic matter. In the atmosphere, they exist as gases or adsorbed onto particulate matter, contributing to air pollution. Some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are known carcinogens and are monitored for air quality standards.
