Hydrochemical facies

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006310

A body of groundwater within an aquifer that possesses a distinct and identifiable chemical character. The specific composition results from the interaction between the water and the surrounding geological materials, as well as the initial chemistry of the recharging precipitation, which is influenced by atmospheric processes and pollutants. These distinct water types are commonly classified and visualized using graphical representations such as Piper or Stiff diagrams.
