Twilight glow

The reddish or yellowish illumination observed in the western sky after sunset or in the eastern sky before sunrise, caused by the scattering of sunlight by dust and aerosols in the upper atmosphere. This phenomenon is most pronounced when the sun is just below the horizon. It is distinct from the direct light of the sun and can be enhanced by volcanic eruptions.
