Afterglow

A broad arch of reddish or pinkish light observed in the western sky after sunset, or in the eastern sky before sunrise. This phenomenon is caused by the scattering of sunlight by fine dust particles and aerosols in the upper atmosphere. Its intensity and duration are often enhanced after volcanic eruptions.
