Apogean tide

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003580

A tide that occurs when the Moon is at its apogee, its farthest point from Earth in its elliptical orbit. Due to the increased distance, the gravitational pull of the Moon on Earth is weaker, resulting in smaller tidal ranges. Apogean tides are characterized by lower high tides and higher low tides compared to average.
