Moist convection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007367

Atmospheric convection that is significantly enhanced by the release of latent heat as water vapor condenses into liquid water or ice. This process adds buoyancy to rising air parcels, leading to stronger updrafts and the formation of towering cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. It is a fundamental mechanism for vertical heat and moisture transport in the troposphere.
