Plastic deformation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002816
Permanent change in the shape or volume of a rock body without fracturing, occurring when stress exceeds the rock's elastic limit. This type of deformation is common in ductile rocks like shale or salt under high pressure and temperature conditions in the subsurface. Folds and flow structures are results of plastic deformation.
