Proppant
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002977
A granular material, such as sand, ceramic beads, or bauxite, pumped into a hydraulic fracture to keep it open after the fracturing fluid is withdrawn. It prevents the fracture from closing and maintains a conductive pathway for hydrocarbons to flow to the wellbore. Proppant size and type are selected based on reservoir characteristics and desired fracture conductivity.
