Breakdown pressure
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000448
The minimum pressure required to initiate a fracture in a rock formation, overcoming the in-situ stresses and the tensile strength of the rock. This pressure is a key parameter in hydraulic fracturing operations, indicating when the formation will accept fluid. It is determined by injecting fluid into a sealed interval and monitoring pressure response.
