Spreading loss
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003555
The reduction in the intensity of an acoustic or electromagnetic signal as it propagates outwards from its source, due to the geometric expansion of the wavefront. This loss is a fundamental physical phenomenon and is independent of absorption or scattering. For spherical spreading, the intensity decreases with the square of the distance from the source.
