Zoeppritz equations
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004207
A set of mathematical expressions that describe how seismic wave energy is distributed when a P-wave or S-wave encounters an interface between two different rock layers. These equations predict the amplitudes of reflected and transmitted P-waves and S-waves based on the elastic properties and densities of the two media. They are used in seismic interpretation to understand subsurface lithology and fluid content.
