Basic wavelet
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000289
The elementary seismic signal produced by a single, isolated, and sharp reflector, representing the earth's impulse response as filtered by the recording system. It is the fundamental building block of a seismic trace, which is modeled as the convolution of the earth's reflectivity series with this wavelet. The wavelet's shape is determined by the seismic source, receiver characteristics, and filtering effects of the near-surface.
