Harmonic distortion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001792
The introduction of unwanted frequencies that are integer multiples of the fundamental frequency into a signal. In seismic data acquisition, this can occur due to non-linear behavior of seismic sources or receivers, or through interactions with the subsurface. Harmonic distortion can obscure the primary seismic reflections and reduce the quality of seismic images, requiring specialized processing techniques for attenuation.
