Coherent noise
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000736
Unwanted seismic energy that exhibits a predictable pattern or consistent waveform across multiple traces, making it distinguishable from random noise. Examples include ground roll, air waves, and multiples. Coherent noise can obscure reflections and must be attenuated during seismic processing using techniques like f-k filtering or predictive deconvolution.
