Noise
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004396
Any unwanted energy recorded during a seismic survey that is not a primary reflection from the subsurface. Noise can be random, such as wind or wave action, or coherent, like ground roll, multiples, and energy from cultural sources like traffic or machinery. Seismic data processing involves a series of filtering techniques designed to attenuate this noise and isolate the desired reflection signals.
