Multiple reflection
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002484
A seismic wave that has undergone more than one reflection before arriving at a receiver. These waves can reflect off the free surface (sea surface or ground surface) or off strong subsurface reflectors multiple times. Multiples are considered noise in seismic data as they obscure primary reflections and must be attenuated or removed during processing to obtain an accurate image of the subsurface.
