Noise log

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002551

A passive acoustic measurement that records downhole sounds to identify fluid or gas movement in or around a wellbore. The tool's sensors detect the acoustic energy generated by turbulent flow through restrictions, such as leaks in casing, tubing, or packers, or flow in a channel behind the pipe. The log presents the sound intensity across a spectrum of frequencies, with different flow phenomena producing characteristic acoustic signatures.
