Conical projection
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004275
A type of map projection that transforms the spherical surface of the Earth onto a cone, which is then unrolled into a flat plane. It is created by conceptually placing a cone over a globe, tangent or secant to one or more parallels of latitude. Conical projections are well-suited for mapping mid-latitude regions with an east-west orientation, as they preserve shape and area with low distortion along the standard parallels.
