Conformity

A geological relationship where successive rock layers are deposited one after another without any interruption in sedimentation or erosion. This indicates continuous depositional conditions over time, with no major breaks in the stratigraphic record. Conformities are identified by parallel bedding planes and consistent lithologies between adjacent strata.
