Column shifter
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001247
A gearshift lever for a vehicle's transmission that is mounted on the steering column. This design frees up floor space between the driver and front passenger, allowing for a bench seat. While most prevalent in older vehicles with automatic transmissions, it was also used for manual transmissions, requiring a specific linkage to connect the column-mounted lever to the gearbox.
