Kinetic control

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006348

A reaction pathway where the product distribution is determined by the relative rates of formation of different products, rather than their thermodynamic stabilities. This occurs when the reaction is irreversible or when the activation energy for the formation of one product is significantly lower than for others. The kinetically controlled product is often the one formed fastest.
