Product-determining step
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009509
A step in a multi-step reaction sequence that determines the final product distribution, especially when multiple reaction pathways are possible. This step typically occurs after the rate-determining step and involves an irreversible transformation or branching point. The relative energies of transition states leading to different products dictate the outcome.
