Collisional focusing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002232
A technique in mass spectrometry that uses collisions between ions and a buffer gas to confine and guide ions through a region, improving ion transmission efficiency. The collisions dampen the kinetic energy of the ions, reducing their radial velocity components and concentrating them along the central axis. This method is often employed in ion funnels and multipole ion guides.
