Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013080

The energy that must be supplied to a ground-state atom to bring it to a given excited ionic state, equal to the ionization energy of the atom plus the excitation energy of the ion level. It is quoted in electronvolts and is used in atomic emission spectrometry to characterize ionic lines. It differs from the excitation energy of the level alone, which leaves out the ionization energy.
