Plasma excitation temperature

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009011

The temperature that describes how the populations of excited levels of atoms or ions in a plasma follow a Boltzmann distribution. It is obtained from the relative intensities of emission lines of one species, for example from the slope of a Boltzmann plot. It equals the electron temperature only when the plasma is in local thermodynamic equilibrium.
