Laser dye

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006459

An organic compound that, when dissolved in a solvent, can absorb light at one wavelength and re-emit it at a longer wavelength through fluorescence. These dyes are used as the gain medium in dye lasers to produce tunable coherent light. The emission wavelength of a laser dye depends on its chemical structure and the solvent used.
