Mordant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007574
A substance that forms a stable complex with a dye, thereby fixing the dye to a substrate, such as a biological tissue or fiber. It acts as an intermediary, binding to both the dye and the material to enhance colorfastness. Common mordants include metal salts like aluminum sulfate or iron(II) sulfate.
