Phase II reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008740
A metabolic process that involves the conjugation of a xenobiotic or its phase I metabolite with an endogenous, polar molecule, such as glucuronic acid, sulfate, or glutathione. These reactions typically increase the compound's water solubility and molecular weight, facilitating its excretion from the body. Enzymes like UDP-glucuronosyltransferases catalyze these conjugation reactions.
