Specific catalysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011100

A type of catalysis where the reaction rate is directly proportional to the concentration of a specific acid or base species, such as H3O+ or OH-, and is independent of the concentration of other acidic or basic species present. This occurs when the proton transfer step is rapid and reversible, and the rate-determining step involves the protonated or deprotonated form of the reactant. It is distinct from general acid-base catalysis.
