Nucleophilic catalysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013351

A form of catalysis where a nucleophile, the catalyst, reacts with a substrate to form a reactive intermediate, which is more susceptible to subsequent reaction than the original substrate. The catalyst is regenerated in a later step of the reaction sequence. This mechanism is distinct from general base catalysis, where the catalyst removes a proton from the substrate in the rate-determining step.
