Lewis adduct
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006547
The species produced when a Lewis base donates an electron pair to a Lewis acid, the two partners being held together by a dative covalent bond. Boron trifluoride combines with ammonia in this way to give the adduct H3N-BF3, in which nitrogen supplies both electrons of the new N-B bond. Boron trifluoride diethyl etherate, a common laboratory reagent, is another example.
