Electron-pair donor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003761
A molecule or ion that has at least one lone pair of electrons available for donation to an electron-pair acceptor, forming a dative covalent bond. This chemical behavior is the definition of a Lewis base. Species like the ammonia molecule (NH₃), with its lone pair on the nitrogen atom, and anions such as the chloride ion (Cl⁻) are common examples of electron-pair donors.
