Dative bond
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002870
A type of covalent bond where both electrons in the shared pair originate from a single atom, known as the donor atom. The other atom, the acceptor, provides an empty orbital to accommodate this electron pair. This bond is also referred to as a coordinate covalent bond and is prevalent in coordination compounds, such as in the interaction between a Lewis base and a Lewis acid.
