Anionic polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012872

A type of chain polymerization initiated by anions, which act as nucleophiles to open the double bond of a monomer, forming a new anionic active center. The polymerization proceeds by successive additions of monomer units to this growing anionic chain end. This process is highly sensitive to impurities and is often carried out under rigorously anhydrous conditions to achieve high molecular weights.
