Electrophilic chain polymerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003779
A type of chain polymerization initiated by an electrophile, which attacks a monomer to form a reactive intermediate that then propagates the chain reaction. This mechanism is common for monomers with electron-rich double bonds, such as vinyl ethers or isobutylene. The propagating species is typically a carbocation, which adds to subsequent monomer units.
