Cation-activated-monomer polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001744

A type of activated-monomer polymerization where a cationic species activates the monomer, making it more susceptible to nucleophilic attack by the propagating chain end. This mechanism is common in the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic ethers and acetals. The propagating species is typically a neutral polymer chain with an active hydroxyl end group.
