Lactides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006416
Cyclic di-esters formed by the intramolecular or intermolecular esterification of two molecules of a 2-hydroxy carboxylic acid, such as lactic acid. The resulting structure is a six-membered heterocyclic ring containing two ester functional groups. Lactide derived from lactic acid is a key monomer used in the production of polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer.
