Lactams
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006413
Cyclic amides formed by the intramolecular reaction of a carboxylic acid group and an amino group within the same molecule. They are characterized by a ring structure containing a nitrogen atom and a carbonyl group. The size of the ring is indicated by a Greek letter prefix, such as beta-lactam for a four-membered ring.
