Polyester
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009136
A class of polymers whose constitutional repeating units are linked by ester functional groups in the main chain. They are formed through the polycondensation reaction of a dicarboxylic acid with a diol, or by the ring-opening polymerization of a lactone. Common examples include polyethylene terephthalate (PET), used in beverage bottles and clothing fibers, and biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA).
