Moistening agents
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007464
Liquids such as water or short-chain alcohols that are added to powders to wet them, as in wet granulation for tablet production, where they dissolve or activate the binder so that particles stick into granules. Ethanol or isopropanol replaces water for drugs that degrade in moisture. Moistening agents differ from wetting agents, which are surfactants that lower surface tension.
